I had surgery. Yep… that’s why I’ve been missing in action for a little while.
Turns out I had a mysterious tear in my meniscus combined with what’s commonly known as “Runner’s Knee.” Why mysterious? Because, let’s face it: I’m not exactly an athlete. I’m a game developer. Most of my day is spent sitting down: reading books, playing video games, listening to music. Hardly orthopedically demanding activities. And yet… here we are.
And it’s not my first time, either.
Two years ago, I had another surgery for something called “Pitcher’s Shoulder.” Pitcher, as in baseball. I still remember blinking at my doctor when he explained that it basically meant my bicep was torn. Two questions popped into my head immediately:
- My what? (because I wasn’t even sure I had biceps to begin with)
- Baseball? (because my entire connection to the sport is limited to RBI Baseball 2 and MLB The Show).
The doctor went on to say he’d seen quite a few cases of Pitcher’s Shoulder while working in Konya. Which, oddly enough, did not make me feel any better. (If you don’t get the joke, look up Konya).
Under normal circumstances, this post would be about Ayreon and their incredible gig in Tilburg, a concert I delayed my surgery just to attend. But that story will have to wait.
For now, I’ll be resting. It’ll be at least another week before I can move without pain. After that, we’ll talk again.
